Grade 4 DUA students had an amazing experience during their excursion to Werribee Open Range Zoo. They enjoyed and learnt differently through their hands on experiences in the subjects of Geography: Environment, Sustainability and Management of Resources and Writing: Information Report.
We got to hold a real giraffe skull and study it to find out how it is suited to live in its Grasslands environment. It is herbivore because it has broad flat molars with rough surfaces, which are used for grinding up tough plant tissues.
We got to hold and study the skull replicas of an African lion, A Vervet Monkey, a Western Lowland Gorilla, a Meerkat, an African Wild Dog and a Cheetah. In our small groups, had to make an educated guess about which skull belonged to which one of those animals, then check our answers when back in the whole
group session! We felt like scientists!
