Year 11 Chemistry Girls Visit La Trobe University

Year 11 Chemistry Girls Visit La Trobe University and Use a Variety of Analytical Instruments to Analyse Water Samples

On Monday, the 28th of August, Year 11 Chemistry students visited Latrobe University in Bundoora. The purpose of their visit was to be introduced to a variety of analytical techniques which they used to analyse water samples. The students used UV-Vis spectroscopy to determine the amount of detergent in a water sample. They used an ion exchange column to soften hard water. They used Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy to determine the amount of calcium in a water sample. Finally, they used High Performance Liquid Chromatography to determine the amount of phenolic compounds in a sample of water. Well done to all of the students for completing the tasks carefully and efficiently.
